Guns and Growing Up!
Got to thinking about shootings in our society and here's
what I came up with. When I was a boy we
had shootings also; after school it was watching the good guys take the bad
guys on the television set. It was Roy
or Matt or the boys from Laredo. And each
time there seemed to be a life lesson in the stories relating how we can get
along if we try and if each side wants to work it out. But the good guys didn’t back down or play
wimps; if it took a gun to make it right then so be it, but they didn’t just
use the gun they used their common sense, as well.
If you disagree with any of this go read about Alvin C. York
or Audie Murphy; two farm boys from Tennessee and Texas respectively, who went
on to become World War 1 and World War 2’s most famous heroes. Read about what they thought about guns and
how Alvin abhorred the use of them for killing people but understood it took a
gun to save lives sometimes from the hands of deranged bad people! Guns aren’t the problem; they aren’t the full
answer either but, without them bad people will allow bad things to happen to
good people. Read about Hitler in W.W.
II or any of the other nations in the world who worked hard at disarming their populations
through the centuries, then caused great harm on those societies because the
people had no arms to defend their own selves or their loved ones.
As young boys it didn't ever cross our minds to take our
guns to school or out into society and run rampant like a bunch of idiots........real
men worked out their problems; without guns if able, but with if it was called
for. I wonder what the correlation is
between these generations of now and what they are being fed on television to
what our generations were from the 50's and 60's on the values they watched
from the television? Now I’m not for
Hollywood, but certainly the shows we watched in earlier years had some ideas
of planting better ideas into the heads of the young than what we have on the
tube today! Besides, my dad and mom were
always there to take care of me and they taught me many of the values, ethics,
morals, and ideals that I’m passing on today to my generations following behind
me!
It does make you think…..if you’re not a complete idiot! (No
Political Correctness here)
